Arson Suspect Detained as Firefighters Contain Table Mountain Blaze

The fire, which began two days ago, spread rapidly, pushed by the strong northeast winds typical of this region. It consumed approximately 9 hectares of vegetation before it was brought under control. This incident prompted a vigorous response from South African National Parks (SANParks), the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, and firefighters from the Working on Fire program. These teams worked tirelessly to manage the fire line and prevent further spread, despite challenging conditions that included nighttime flare-ups.

During the operations, one firefighter was injured and subsequently airlifted to safety, highlighting the risks associated with controlling wildfires in such rugged terrain. Fortunately, there were no civilian injuries or damage to property reported.

Their spokesperson stated, "We continue to work closely with our partners to manage the fire and ensure safety. While aerial support hasn’t been needed, we are closely monitoring flare-up risks and are prepared to take all necessary actions."
