Search Concludes for Missing Nomsa Zulu After Sunninghill Floods

Following an exhaustive two-week long search, Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (Joburg EMS) has officially called off the operation for Nomsa Zulu, who was tragically swept away by raging floodwaters in the Sunninghill area. The unsettling event unfolded 10 days ago amidst a sudden deluge that left the community reeling.

The coordinated search operation comprised of Joburg EMS aquatic team, local police, Gauteng traffic police, and additional search units combing through the affected areas. Despite the deployment of extensive resources and the tireless efforts of search teams, the mission to locate Zulu has proven fruitless.

According to Xolile Khumalo, spokesperson for the Joburg EMS, there has been no trace of Zulu. "After at least five days in water, the body of a drowned person is expected to surface. If it does not surface, it is suspected the body is immersed in sand or debris," Khumalo explained. This unsettling news suggests that if Zulu's body did not emerge in the expected timeframe, it could be significantly obscured from view and rescue efforts.

The aftermath of the flash flooding also saw a witness reporting to the Douglasdale police, having observed Zulu's vehicle being engulfed by the flood as she navigated through a pool of water at the intersection of Witkoppen and Rivonia roads. Although her car was eventually located, it brought no consolation, as Zulu was nowhere to be found.
