Tragic Home Invasion: Father and Daughter Fatally Shot in Delft

In a horrific turn of events, a peaceful suburb in Delft was rocked by violence on the night of 3 January, when a father and his 19-year-old daughter were brutally murdered in their home. The grim incident occurred in Nata Court, Leiden—a normally quiet area that has been shaken by this tragedy.

The victims were at home when they suddenly heard gunfire outside their residence. According to the Western Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the gunmen shot through one of the house windows to access the door lock, forcing their entry into the house. The assailants then proceeded to execute the father, aged 42, and his daughter with precision, inflicting fatal gunshot wounds to their heads.

Jacky Ockhuizen, a spokesperson for the Delft community policing forum, detailed a harrowing escape by the only surviving witness, a 40-year-old woman. She was in the bathroom during the invasion and ingeniously preserved her life by lying motionless on the floor, pretending to be dead amidst the chaos. The quick-thinking survivor suffered injuries from glass splinters but managed to avoid a more tragic fate.

The woman recounted the terrifying ordeal stating her partner and his visiting daughter, who was celebrating the holidays away from the Eastern Cape, were both killed in the incident. Medical personnel declared the father and daughter deceased at the scene, marking a somber start to the new year for the community.

The motive behind the attack remains a mystery as nothing was reported stolen from the residence. The South African Police Service (SAPS) is currently investigating the murders alongside an attempted murder case regarding the surviving woman.
