The triumphant Springboks are ready to light up Cape Town with their celebratory victory tour slated for Friday. On Thursday night, thousands of cheering fans welcomed the team to the Mother City at Cape Town International Airport, creating a magnetic atmosphere tinged with jubilation and anticipation.
The Springboks winning the Rugby World Cup still feels 'unreal' and 'magical,' gushed Damian Willemse, a team member, upon the squad's arrival at the airport. Fans, who donned their Springboks jerseys and other related outfits, shared the sentiment. The euphoria was palpable as fans expressed their excitement at the prospect of celebrating the homecoming of their heroes.
In the midst of the cheering and chanting, and proudly displaying their green and gold, the Capetonian locals voiced their acclaim. Their recognition for the excellent victory the Springboks clinched echoed not only throughout the airport but also all across Cape Town.
"It was exciting! Oh, the emotions streaming in right now as the Boks are entering. We're all here, shouting and rooting for the Bokke," said one overjoyed fan.
Equally enthusiastic were the players, showing undying energy despite a long day of travel. They greeted fans, shared hugs, took selfies, and let the fans touch the golden Cup. Echoing the fans' sentiments, they too are eager to hit the streets of Cape Town.
Siya Kolisi, embracing the spirit of the incoming celebration, asserted, "You can see already the people are excited to see us... Kaapstad is ready, we are ready too. Ons kan nie wag nie!" ("We cannot wait!")
The Springboks, now four-time rugby world champions, are also expected to pay a visit to Parliament on Friday morning. Afterward, they will host a victory parade in the Cape Town CBD, before visiting other areas of the city.
