In a decisive clampdown on criminal activities, Limpopo's Multidisciplinary Vala Umgodi Task Team spearheaded a significant operation that resulted in the arrest of 21 suspects engaging in a range of illegal undertakings. From the early morning through to the late evening of December 12, 2024, the task force targeted areas known for illicit activities throughout the province.

The operation was a collaborative effort with several specialized units, including the Sekhukhune District Illegal Mining Task Team and the K9 Unit, which concentrated on Marble Hall's unoccupied municipal premises and the local taxi rank. This raid alone led to the apprehension of nine individuals. The suspects were found indulging in the possession and trafficking of drugs, flaunting dangerous weapons, breaching immigration laws, and engaging in illegal gambling practices.

The task force’s rigorous approach in Marble Hall was notably impactful, where during one specific raid, five suspects were arrested on drug-related charges after being found with substances such as Nyaope, crystal meth, and dagga. The street value of the drugs was estimated to be over R17,000. Notably, one individual was also charged with the possession of a dangerous weapon after being found with a knife.

Further, during a meticulous foot patrol at the Marble Hall taxi rank, authorities seized packets of Remington Gold illicit cigarettes, summing up to a value of more than R300.

Expanding their horizon, the team executed a stop-and-search operation in the Tzaneen Industrial area within the Mopani District, apprehending six illegal foreign nationals. Moving northwest to the Waterberg region, the Marulaneng Tinmine policing area was the next focus, where two foreign nationals were arrested for selling expired food products.

The Vhembe Task Team's efforts were not in vain, as they managed to detain four additional illegal immigrants. These focused operations across various districts underscore the task team's commitment to purging the region of illicit activities.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the multidimensional task team for their diligent efforts and the spirit of cooperation which played a crucial role in the operation's success. The swift action taken by the Vala Umgodi Task Team has not only resulted in significant arrests but has also sent a strong message to criminals operating within the area.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety and enforce law and order in Limpopo, demonstrating the authorities' resolve to confront and curb criminal activities head-on. The community's cooperation and support in these efforts are imperative for sustainable peace and security in the region.
