In a notable achievement for community development, Bitou Municipality has officially transferred ownership to 41 beneficiaries as part of the Qolweni 169 Housing Project. The ceremony marking this occasion was attended by Bitou Executive Mayor, Cllr Jessica Kamkam, Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Nokuzola Kolwapi, Speaker, Cllr Mavis Busakwe, and Ward 3 Councillor, Cllr Thembela Mhlana.

During the event, Mayor Jessica Kamkam shared her thoughts on the significance of title deeds, urging beneficiaries to understand and value this symbol of ownership which constitutes a vital legal document affirming one's right to their property. Emphasizing its importance, she urged the residents to safeguard the deeds as an asset for future generations.

Mayor Kamkam’s sentiments were echoed by Deputy Mayor Kolwapi, who expressed her gratitude towards the national government’s role in fulfilling the housing needs and highlighted the role of Cllr Mhlana in remembering and addressing the community’s housing requirements. The title deeds were described as a legacy, ensuring the beneficiaries' ownership and connection to their land for years to come.

Ward 3 Councillor Mhlana delivered a poignant reminder to beneficiaries about their responsibility towards the community, including the need to pay for municipal services. His statement underlined the importance of financial contributions from employed residents to enable the continuity of service delivery by the municipality.

The successful handover of these title deeds marks a small but significant step in addressing housing needs in the area and providing tangible proof of ownership to residents who have long awaited this moment. This initiative not only secures the homes for current residents but also sets the foundation for future generations to come.
