Former Employee Faces Court for Alleged R6.2 Million Theft from Employers

Young, 57, is accused of embezzling over R6.2 million from Big Shooters CC and Tupeloscape Pty Ltd, companies where she was in charge of managing their business bank accounts.

The case, which has unfolded in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, traces back to a period between 2009 and 2014. It was not until an internal audit was conducted that the financial discrepancies came to light. Consequently, a case was registered against Young at the Sunnyside police station in July 2014, signaling the onset of a legal journey that has spanned nearly a decade.

Young's responsibilities at the companies included handling bank accounts with the intent to pay for the company's expenses. However, the prosecution alleges that instead of fulfilling her duties, Young diverted the funds for her personal use, notably in online gambling activities.
