Former Crime Intelligence officer, Thando Faku, was pronounced guilty of ex-girlfriend Wendy Papu's murder, following a ruling from the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday. A detailed overview of the tragic event showcased the tragic murder of the deceased, presumably shot by Faku in January 2019, marking a morose chapter in Cape Town's recent crime history.

Faku didn't just land the murder charge. He was also found guilty of attempting to circumvent justice by narrating an unconvincing story to authorities. The tale consisted of an alleged hijacking where unidentified men stole his wallet and firearm, compelling him to lead them to his ex-girlfriend, Papu, who was summarily shot. Adding to the peculiar account, the unknown men supposedly tossed him into his car boot, eventually discarding him in the veld.

Besides the murder and obstruction of justice charges, Faku was proven guilty of assaulting Papu an year prior to her death. Judge Constance Nziweni noted how Faku's testimony continuously morphed during his court appearance and deemed his hijacking narrative utterly bizarre. Eventually, his defence fell through when an overall synopsis of the evidence was assessed.

Thando Faku's hefty sentence serves as a stark reminder that justice still prevails, irrespective of one's in-depth knowledge of the law or their past and present affiliations.
