Cape Town, the South African coastal city renowned for its scenic beauty, has been ranked the 7th most affordable city break destination in the world. The information comes from a new study conducted by travel experts at Bounce for the year 2023. The team reexamined their 2021 City Break Cost Index, scrutinizing the cost of living in 75 of the year's most trendy city break locations.

Factors such as hotel costs, restaurant pricing, the price of a beer, and public transport rates were taken into consideration in the study. According to the survey, an average hotel room per night in Cape Town is priced at R5,600, with restaurant meals approximately costing R200 and a beer R46.

Leading the pack in the most affordable city break destinations is Timișoara in Romania, with a nightly hotel room cost of R2,300. The Romanian city was named Europe’s capital of culture in 2021, thanks to its rich history and lower than average taxi price per kilometre at R15.

The Argentinian city, Buenos Aires, ranked second in the list. The city, home to the cheapest bottle of wine at R74 and a one-way ticket on local transport at R4, dropped down from its place since 2021. Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, a new entry in the index, secured the third position. The city boasts affordable public transportation and a draught beer, setting you back just R32.
