In a collaborative operation that highlights the diligent efforts of local law enforcement in partnership with community members, the Thabazimbi Police, together with Koedoeskop farmers, achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing battle against illicit drug activities. On Thursday, February 13, 2025, an intelligence-led operation culminated in the arrest of two Zimbabwean nationals and the seizure of dagga estimated to be worth around R500,000.
The operation unfolded near Koedoeskop area at approximately 10:00 AM when police, acting on precise intelligence, intercepted a white Scania truck with two trailers driven by one of the suspects. The initial stop led to a comprehensive search of the vehicle, revealing various quantities of dagga cleverly concealed in 106 small bags, 10 large bags, and two refuse bags of loose dagga. Altogether, the dagga weighed approximately 148.5 kilograms.
The seized contraband, along with the vehicle used in its transport, underscores a critical interception of drug trafficking within the province. The two detained individuals, aged 25 and 39, are currently in police custody and are expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon. They face serious charges including possession and dealing in dagga, a schedule 2 drug under South African law.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, expressed her satisfaction with the successful operation. She commended the joint efforts of the police and the local farming community, which were instrumental in the operation’s success. This cooperative approach is part of a broader strategy to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
The ongoing investigations suggest that there might be bigger networks involved, indicating a well-organized drug trafficking operation within the area. This bust not only represents a substantial financial hit to the drug trafficking network but also signifies the resilience and proactive stance of law enforcement in Limpopo against drug-related offenses.
As the community and local authorities continue to work hand in hand, such operations are vital for disrupting the illegal drug trade that threatens the safety and security of the region. These efforts are also crucial in signaling to potential offenders that drug crimes will not be tolerated and will face stringent legal repercussions.
