In a series of coordinated efforts to enhance safety and security, the Western Cape Police successfully detained three suspects on charges related to the possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition, as well as drug dealing. These arrests, which occurred over the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day holidays, are part of a broader crime prevention initiative across the region.

In the first incident on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Atlantis police, acting on a tip, raided a residence on Sacramento Street in the Saxonsea area. Officers discovered a revolver and multiple rounds of ammunition hidden within the home. Their thorough search resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old male, who is now facing charges for holding a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

The following day, the Kraaifontein Crime Prevention Unit, while patrolling Bharu Street, spotted a man acting suspiciously. When approached by police, the man attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and additional ammunition. The 22-year-old suspect was detained under charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Also on Christmas Day, in an unrelated operation, members attached to Operation Shanela conducted a stop-and-search operation in Browns Farm after receiving reports of possible drug activity. Their investigation led them to a residence on Dweza Street, where they seized 88 sachets of methamphetamine and a quantity of cash. A 27-year-old female was arrested at the scene for her involvement in drug trafficking.

The three suspects are being held pending their court appearances at the Atlantis, Blue Downs, and Athlone Magistrates' courts, where they will face charges according to the incidents.

These operations underline the commitment of the Western Cape Police to combat crime persistently and ensure a safer environment for all citizens, especially during high-risk periods like the festive season. Such efforts are crucial in deterring criminal activities and maintaining public trust in law enforcement effectiveness.
