In a chilling development that has rocked the Nongoma community, three men have been brutally killed in what appears to be an execution-style shooting. KwaZulu-Natal Police are actively searching for the perpetrators behind this horrifying event, which occurred in the early hours of the morning in the KwaMpondo area of Dabhazi, Nongoma.

The victims, aged 26, 29, and 34, were found deceased by law enforcement authorities who quickly responded to reports of gunfire. According to the police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, the men were found with gunshot wounds to the head, lying on the road next to their vehicle, which was still running. Around the vehicle, a wheel spanner and a jack were found, indicating the victims might have been ambushed while attempting to fix a tire.

This grievous incident seems to hold no clear motive yet, as per the spokesperson’s report. The victims were reportedly returning from a family ceremony in the Nkowane area and were responsible for dropping off family members before meeting their untimely death.

The timing of this heinous crime is particularly sensitive as it precedes a scheduled visit by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is expected in Nongoma to address ongoing factional conflicts between the residents of KwaMusi and Onyango areas. These disputes have already claimed several lives and the latest incident adds to the urgency for resolution and peace.

The community of Nongoma, already on edge due to the local tensions, has been thrust further into distress, seeking answers and justice for the blatant disregard for life exhibited in this gruesome act.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they intensify their efforts to apprehend those responsible for these killings. The incident underscores the grave reality of factional violence in the region and the critical need for intervention to restore order and safety for its residents.

Police Minister Mchunu’s upcoming visit now carries even greater significance as he faces the task of addressing not only the longstanding issues but also the aftermath of this tragic event that has claimed the lives of three members of the community under horrific circumstances.
