Tragic Farm Attack in Rouxville: Husband Killed, Wife Kidnapped, and Police Shoot Suspect

In a harrowing incident that shattered the early morning peace of Rouxville in the Free State, a community was left reeling as a farm attack resulted in the death of a 52-year-old farmer, the kidnapping of his wife, and subsequent police confrontation that ended in the shooting of one suspect.

The attack occurred in the Goedemoed area, a realm typically known for its agricultural tranquility rather than violent crime. At around 07:00, local police were notified by concerned community members of the brutal unfolding events. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found the farmer with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. His wife was discovered missing, prompting an immediate and vigorous response from the authorities.

Utilizing the collaborative efforts of the E2 project—a local security initiative—and the community, police were able to swiftly trace the suspects' getaway vehicle to a nearby farm in Tierpoort. The Bloemfontein Flying Squad played a crucial role in the operation, tracking and intercepting the vehicle. Inside, they found not only the kidnapped wife but also several suspects, including two women and a man who were promptly detained for questioning.

The operation was marked by intense moments including the wounding and subsequent death of one of the suspects, who was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The wife of the deceased farmer was safely rescued and is currently under medical care, where her condition is being evaluated to assess the trauma experienced and determine any additional charges that may be applicable to the suspects.

Recovery of firearms from the vehicle pointed to the preparedness of the criminals and underscored the lethal intentions behind this attack. The police are diligently processing the crime scenes and pursuing further leads to uncover the full scope of this crime.

Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, the Provincial Commissioner of the Free State Police, expressed deep condolences to the affected family and gratitude towards the E2 stakeholders and farming community for their rapid aid which was instrumental in the successful rescue operation.
