George Municipality Completes TID Rollover, Paving the Way for Enhanced Prepaid Services

In a landmark development for prepaid electricity services, George Municipality has declared the completion of the much-anticipated Token Identifier (TID) Rollover project across all its governed regions. The extensive project, which also encompassed areas like Uniondale, Haarlem, and Wilderness, marks a significant upgrade in the prepaid electricity service infrastructure in preparation for the national shift to the Key Revision Number (KRN 2) by 24 November 2024.

The completion of the TID rollover involved the meticulous replacement and upgrading of prepaid electricity meters to ensure compatibility with KRN 2. This system upgrade is essential for enhancing security features against electricity fraud and improving the overall efficiency of the power distribution network regulated by George Municipality and Eskom, the national electricity provider.

During this transition, several challenges were noted, including the discovery of outdated meters and cases of meter tampering. While the municipal areas have largely completed the rollover, George Municipality continues to work closely with Ontec Systems, the technology provider overseeing the integration of the new system.
