EASTERN CAPE, South Africa - The tenacity of the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation unit has once again been brought to the forefront in the Eastern Cape with the apprehension and court appearance of Sinazo Qusheka. On the 14th of November 2024, the 35-year-old stood before the magistrate in the East London court, implicated in intricate deceit designed to defraud a construction company of a machinery purchase valued at over R900,000.

Unravelling the layers of this scheme, the Hawks' probe exposed a shrewd operation wherein Qusheka, alongside her collaborators, orchestrated the purchase of a 2006 Volvo grader by the victim's company from TRM Construction. In what was to be a standard transaction, evolved into a calculated redirection of the grader by the accused's associates. The machinery was siphoned away from the possession of Border Towing, the company arranged to deliver the grader, and was clandestinely diverted.

The sleight of hand continued with the fraudulent registration of the grader under the name of Wayotha Investment CC, with Sinazo Qusheka playing the part of the proxy. Further digging into the case disclosed that the conniving syndicate didn't stop there; they went as far as altering a bank settlement letter, swapping in the details of the deceptively named Sharon Diversified Grader.

The meticulous efforts of the Hawks have culminated in Qusheka's charges of fraud. With the court proceedings underway, the gravity of the crime has warranted the case's postponement to the 14th of January 2025, allowing for additional evidence gathering and preparation.

The effectiveness of the team conducting the investigation has not gone unnoticed. The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, commended the unit's dedication and emphasized the strong deterrent effect such arrests have on potential criminals. The clear message from law enforcement is that fraudulent behavior, regardless of its complexity, will eventually be met with the harsh light of justice.

The unfolding of this case will be closely monitored as the Hawks continue to demonstrate their vigilance in rooting out corruption and the importance of protecting legitimate business transactions in South Africa.
