In a significant anti-crime operation, the North West's law enforcement has succeeded in apprehending two individuals suspected of drug-dealing and possessing illegal firearms and ammunition. On the morning of Friday, 08 November 2024, officers from the Pudimoe Visible Policing Support team, guided by Crime Intelligence, executed search warrants at two locations within the Dryharts village's Lehatlheng Section.

During the first raid, police encountered a cache of various drugs and cash within a residence owned by a 26-year-old woman. With precision, the officers confiscated 100 full and eight halves of mandrax tablets, 72 sachets of methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, 80 sachets of the heroin-based drug nyaope, and 145 sachets of dagga (cannabis). The aggregate street value of the drugs seized is estimated at R21,200. In addition to the narcotics, a sum of R7,032, believed by the authorities to be earnings from her illicit activities, was secured from the suspect before her arrest.

The operation then moved to a second location, revealing yet another alarming discovery; 76 quarters and two halves of mandrax tablets, totaling a street value of R2,500. The officers did not stop there; they unearthed a significant arsenal of weaponry, including two 9mm pistols complete with magazines, an additional R5 rifle magazine, various ammunition rounds (including six R5 and 31 9mm cartridges), and three 7.5mm ammunition rounds. Also found at the scene were three two-way communication radios, stored in a nondescript black shopping bag. The 51-year-old inhabitant of this residence was arrested on the spot.

The two suspects involved in these cases are scheduled to appear before the Taung Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 11 November 2024. The charges set against them include dealing in drugs and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, reflecting the severity of their alleged crimes.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the Provincial Police Commissioner, issued a statement expressing his approval of the successful operation. He emphasized the importance of removing firearms from the criminal underworld, noting their frequent use in committing violent offenses. This operation demonstrates the police's enduring commitment to eradicating the scourge of drugs and illegal weapons in the region, highlighting the ongoing effort to secure the community against such threats.
