In a landmark meeting that marks a significant step towards bilateral cooperation, a high-level delegation representing the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Li Xi, visited South Africa to engage with top officials of the African National Congress (ANC), including secretary general Fikile Mbalula. The discussions centered around a common agenda: combating corruption effectively within the party frameworks and the broader national context.

The ANC spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, stated that both parties, being long-standing allies, shared various methodologies to fortify discipline and track down corruption. Faced with the monumental task of eradicating the widespread scourge of corruption, the ANC showed a deep interest in the rigorous anti-corruption strategies that the CPC has perfected over the years.

South Africa has been battling corruption within various levels of government and sees this engagement as an opportunity to learn from China's hard-lined approach. As part of the bilateral talks, there was a vibrant discussion about poverty eradication, an issue that both parties are committed to addressing. Bhengu-Motsiri highlighted the importance of this exchange and the ongoing efforts of the ANC-led Government of National Unity in tackling corruption in South Africa.

During the CPC delegation's tri-nations tour, which also included Italy and Kenya, the parties reviewed their current cooperation and discussed potential future collaboration areas. The delegation's visit followed President Cyril Ramaphosa's State Visit to China, which bolstered the relations between the two countries through various bilateral trade and cooperation agreements.

These meetings come against the backdrop of a burgeoning trade relationship, with China emerging as South Africa's largest trading partner globally and South Africa as China’s top trading partner in Africa. Growth in bilateral trade stands as a testament to the robust relations between the nations, with a notable increase in imports from South Africa to China signaling closer economic ties.

With this partnership, both parties hope to impart critical learnings and establish strategic plans that will commit to the highest standards of integrity and accountability within their respective governments and parties.
