In a significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against drug-related crimes, the Western Cape division of the High Court has granted a substantial forfeiture order. The Hawks' Asset Forfeiture Investigation, hand-in-hand with the National Prosecuting Authority's Asset Forfeiture Unit, secured the order, signaling a crackdown on illicit drug activities.

The strategic operation unfolded on 17 April 2018, spearheaded by members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (SANEB), who zeroed in on a location in Tamboeskloof. Here, a Professional DJ and other individuals were suspected of possessing narcotics. The operation led to the discovery of a large amount of cash and drugs in a safe hidden within the house's main bedroom, consistent with the characteristics of a sizeable drug dealing operation. More than just cash, the authorities found a black bag teeming with cocaine, scales, and drug paraphernalia suggestive of a full-scale drug trade.

The investigative efforts of the Hawks did not end there. An extensive search of the premises revealed more caches containing cash, foreign currency, a licensed firearm, ammunition, and ecstasy tablets. Further probing led to an external room that harbored around 4kg of MDMA — a haul valued at an estimated R2.4 million. In addition, cash found in the suspect's vehicle pushed the total seized assets to a staggering R361,832.59, which included Kruger rands and foreign currency amounts.

This strategic operation not only resulted in the confiscation of drugs and related illicit items but has also allowed for forfeiture of assets linked to the underlying criminal activities. The forfeiture order granted by the High Court is a clear testament to the ongoing commitment to dismantle drug networks and confiscate the proceeds of crime, reinforcing the notion that crime does not pay.
