AfriForum Mobilizes Public to Thwart EFF-ANC Coalition Takeover of Tshwane Metro

AfriForum, a civil rights organization, has initiated a significant campaign today targeting the potential shift in governance of the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. The action is aimed at stopping the EFF-ANC coalition from taking power, which might lead to a deterioration of municipal services and governance. This move follows revelations that ActionSA is contemplating an alliance with the ANC and EFF, which could potentially dismantle the current DA-led multiparty coalition and remove the incumbent Mayor, Cilliers Brink.

Concerned citizens are encouraged to visit www.redpretoria.co.za, where they can sign a petition that automatically sends a letter to the leaders of ActionSA, DA, IFP, ACDP, and VF+, urging them to resolve any disputes and maintain the coalition's stability. The urgency of this campaign comes as the ANC, after withdrawing their tabled motion of no confidence against Brink due to an urgent court application from the DA, signaled their intention to return with a renewed motion within two weeks.

AfriForum believes that the success seen within Pretoria under the current coalition's governance could be at risk. Ernst van Zyl, AfriForum's Head of Public Relations, warns of a regression into disorder and bad performance in municipal services if the coalition collapses and an EFF-ANC coalition ensues. He emphasizes the urgency of the response needed before the fate of the current ruling coalition is sealed, stating that the potential involvement of the EFF, a party known for controversies and accusations of promoting discord, would be detrimental to the municipality.

Van Zyl strongly opposes the EFF's approach, making a note of their aggressive rhetoric in council meetings. AfriForum's campaign highlights the importance of keeping the rule of law and community control intact, which they believe would be threatened by an EFF-ANC coalition.

The campaign has a clear aim: to reinforce Tshwane residents' resolve against a governance model that could impair the region's stability and growth. AfriForum is thus calling on residents to use their collective voice through the petition to declare their opposition to any party that might consider collaborating with the EFF, and to ensure the Metro's direction aligns with community interests rather than political gains.
