During a meticulously coordinated early morning operation, law enforcement agencies in Durban conducted a significant crackdown against the criminal elements in the city's central business district. The operation, which included units from the police, Metro Police, Correctional Services, and the Department of Home Affairs, resulted in 123 undocumented individuals' arrests.

Authorities targeted several hijacked structures, reclaiming a city-owned building from illegal occupation, and arrested a suspect allegedly in charge of collecting illicit rent from the property’s occupants. The operation emphasizes the government’s resolve to restore law and order and uphold the authority of the state in urban areas.

In addition to the arrests, the operation yielded a large seizure of counterfeit currency, with fake US Dollars equivalent to approximately 4.1 million South African Rand discovered at Point, Durban. The crackdown also led to the recovery of 117 rounds of various firearms' ammunition, a significant volume of liquor, and the disconnection of illegally acquired utilities from two buildings.

The dragnet extended its reach into drug enforcement, with the arrest of an individual found in possession of cocaine, crystal meth, and an undisclosed sum of money. This arrest underscores the broad scope of the operation, targeting not just immigration violations but also the interconnected issues of drug trafficking and financial crimes.

Law enforcement agencies are determined to press on with their search for suspects linked to illegal firearms, signaling that the operation is ongoing and that further results can be anticipated.

The success of this integrated operation reveals a robust collaboration among various law enforcement agencies, highlighting a concerted effort to tighten the grip on criminal activities that undermine safety and order in Durban's CBD. It stands as a declaration of intent against those who partake in or profit from such illicit undertakings.
