The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Emergency Operations Centre sprung into action following the alert from a concerned bystander.


The gruesome discovery prompted an immediate and profound response from a slew of emergency services, including NSRI Bakoven, NSRI Table Bay, a Clifton Surf lifeguard, officers from the City of Cape Town (CoCT) Law Enforcement, Community Medics, Life Healthcare response paramedics, the South African Police Services, and Western Cape Government Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS).


Upon arriving at the harrowing scene, responders found the decomposed body of the infant and swiftly secured it, ensuring that the necessary respect and procedural care was administered. The young victim, whose identity remains unknown, was placed into the delicate care of the Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
