The Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has enacted an immediate manhunt in response to a fatal instance of mob justice that transpired in the community of Malamulele. The tragic event occurred on the evening of Sunday, 18 August 2024, casting a grim light on issues of community violence and criminal vigilante acts in the region.

At approximately 22:30, law enforcement officers received reports of a severe assault on a 37-year-old man at Xigamani village. The assault was said to be the violent act of a mob, which prompted an urgent police response. En route to the reported site of the incident, ten kilometers before reaching Xigamani, the officers were halted by villagers who made a shocking revelation. They presented the officers with the motionless body of the alleged assault victim inside a wheelbarrow, which bore severe injuries on his forehead. The situation took an immediate grim turn when Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

Further investigations revealed that the deceased had been implicated in the theft of an electrical cable and was fatally punished by a group of individuals before his body was discovered a mere stone's throw away from the local clinic in Mphambo village. The question of how the victim ended up in Mphambo, however, remains a mystery as this was not the original location of the assault.

As the probe into the incident continues, authorities are determined to locate and apprehend the suspects responsible for the man's death. Lieutenant General Hadebe is leading an aggressive investigation, utilizing all available resources to seek justice for the deceased and his family. Police have yet to release the victim's identity, pending notification of the next of kin.

The police have appealed for community assistance in the case and urge anyone with information to contact Sergeant Mpho Mbooi at 081 559 9546 or the crime stop number 08600 10111. Information can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPSApp. The response from the public will be crucial in piecing together the events leading to this vicious attack and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
