Oudtshoorn Embraces New Leadership for a United Future

The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality has entered a groundbreaking phase of governance with the election of new executive leaders during a special council meeting held on 01 August 2024. Demonstrating a strong commitment to unity and collaborative governance, the municipality is the first to establish a Government of Local Unity comprising representatives from nine political parties, six of which have agreed to work together under a unified agreement.

Councillor Johan Allers has been elected as the Executive Mayor, with Councillor Mziwoxolo Tyatya by his side as the Executive Deputy Mayor. The role of Council Speaker has been entrusted to Councillor Suzanne Jansen. Additionally, the positions within the new Executive Mayoral Committee (MAYCO) have been assigned, ushering in fresh leadership across the council's portfolio. Meanwhile, Councillor Duvenhage steps in as the Chief Whip of the Council.

In his inaugural address, Mayor Allers emphasized a commitment to service delivery that transcends political differences. He recognized the challenges ahead but stayed focused on unity and the betterment of the town's residents. The new administration aims to invigorate the local economy, foster job creation, streamline business processes, and ensure fair municipal rates for Oudtshoorn's inhabitants.
