City of Johannesburg Pursues Legal Action Against Shepherd Bushiri Over Unpaid Millions

The City of Joburg has heightened its legal campaign against the controversial pastor, Shepherd Bushiri, in a determined bid to reclaim millions of rands in owed funds. According to official court documents recently filed, there's a potentially massive financial reckoning at stake, with authorities targeting the sale of Bushiri's assets as a viable recourse.

The prolonged saga has seen Shepherd Bushiri entangled in a web of financial and legal troubles, further complicated by his flight from South Africa. As the City of Johannesburg tightens the noose, they are adamant about reclaiming in excess of R10 million, purportedly owed by the leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church.

But it's more than just the local government that Bushiri has to worry about. June bore witness to a firm stance taken by PPS Property Fund, as it positioned itself to initiate legal proceedings over more than a million rand in arrears. Confirming their resolve, the company sought the intervention of the Master of the High Court as recently as May, in hopes of procuring an order to auction off Bushiri's assets.

Allegations against Bushiri have mounted. Furthermore, public sentiment has increasingly turned against the pastor due to multiple charges of money laundering and fraud.

Bushiri's escape to Malawi has seemingly done little to dampen the spirit of the local legal system. The City Press has painted a picture of growing impatience from the City of Johannesburg, which has castigated Bushiri for evading his financial and legal responsibilities, and notably, for shirking his tax obligations.
