Five Arrested in Northern Cape in Connection with Housebreaking Spree

The Northern Cape's Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Team's prompt action resulted in the detention of five individuals suspected of housebreaking offenses in Barkly West. The arrests, which transpired in the small hours of Monday morning, emerged from an effective partnership between the police and private security sectors.

At around 00:10 on Monday, 22 July 2024, the skilled team members were tipped off by E2 security service regarding a suspicious white Mazda Bakkie believed to be tied to various robberies targeting homes and businesses throughout Fauresmith in the Free State. According to the report, the vehicle and its occupants were traveling from Postmasburg/Danielskuil to Kimberley.

Acting on the intelligence received, the investigators located the mentioned vehicle as it made its way through the province. In a strategically executed maneuver, the detectives intercepted the bakkie near the Barkly West police station, where an immediate search was initiated.

The search led to the discovery of multiple burglary tools, including grinders, an electric extension, a bolt cutter, zinc cutter, a crowbar, grinder blades, and pliers. The confiscated items point to the occupants' likely involvement in criminal operations, particularly in the burglary of houses and places of business.
