In a tragic development from Musina, Limpopo, a young security officer’s life was brutally cut short early Wednesday morning, prompting top-level police intervention. Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of Police, has issued an immediate command to apprehend the assailants responsible for this heinous act.
On 17 July 2024, during the pre-dawn hours of 03:20, a shooting incident rocked the Musina Emergency Medical Services (EMS) premises. A 30-year-old security guard named Lutendo Mbedzi was discovered lying mortally wounded, soon to be declared dead, initiating a serious crime investigation.
The gruesome scene was stumbled upon by police responding to the emergency. They were confronted with the sight of Mbedzi, who was on guard duty, lying lifeless surrounded by signs of a violent confrontation. The EMS was quick to respond; however, any hopes of saving Mbedzi were dashed as he was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Reports suggest that Mbedzi, along with a 36-year-old female colleague, were at their posts when two unknown assailants breached the perimeter. With a firearm brandished and malevolent intent, they sought firearms from Mbedzi, who was stationed outside the guardroom. Oblivious to the female guard concealed within, they coerced Mbedzi towards the main building under a fatal misapprehension.
The sounds of an ensuing struggle and subsequent gunfire alerted Mbedzi's colleague, who then discovered the tragic result. Post the violent incident, the perpetrators absconded on foot with both Mbedzi's and his colleague's cellphones, leaving behind a scene of sorrow and unanswered questions.
Mbedzi's roots trace back to the Tshakhuma location within the Thohoyandou policing precinct, adding a layer of sorrow to the local community. The ensuing investigation has been cast wide, with Lieutenant General Hadebe activating extensive search efforts in pursuit of the two male suspects.
The police urge the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the individuals behind this barbaric crime. Investigating Officer Sergeant Sadness Tshilwane, along with the established crime stop initiatives, are the primary contacts for tipping off authorities. The hunt for justice for Mbedzi is intensifying, with community members and law enforcement joining forces to close in on the perpetrators.
