Five Criminals Sentenced to 545 Years in Jail for Worcester Liquor Store Robbery and Police Shooting

In a significant crackdown on violent crime in South Africa, Police Minister Mr. Senzo Mchunu has lauded the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the judiciary for their role in securing a stringent cumulative sentence of 545 years for five individuals involved in a liquor store robbery and subsequent shooting at police officers. The incident, which dates back to December 2018 in Zwelethemba, Worcester, saw a group commit a bold theft, absconding with R30,000 and opening fire on law enforcement officials.

The convicts, Phikolomzi Mpafa, Wiseman Tsehlana, Bongani Ngubo, Phello Monyake, and Eliah Mpiti, represent a faction of criminal elements that the South African government has vowed to oppose with unyielding tenacity. Ranging in ages from 29 to 54, the group faced justice for their reckless endangerment of police officers and violation of the law.
