In a bid to curb the alarming trend of vehicle arson within the Moletlane policing precinct, Limpopo's Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incidents that have disturbed the peace of the local communities. A series of these deliberate acts of torching vehicles has raised considerable concern over the potential threat to public safety and property.

From the outset of the year to the beginning of this month, the Moletlane area has witnessed over ten incidents of vehicles being purposefully set ablaze. These occurrences seem to follow a specific blueprint: vehicles parked at residential properties being targeted and ignited during the early morning hours. In several cases, the fires extended beyond vehicles, causing damage to homes as well.

The latest in this nefarious sequence took place in the early hours of Thursday, July 4th, when a Nissan Navara was set ablaze in Mawaneng village, leading to additional fire damage within the house. In Moletlane village, May saw an Isuzu bakkie similarly torched, and a Toyota Hilux bakkie met the same fate in Matjatji village in June.

To counteract these harmful deeds, Lieutenant General Hadebe has instituted a Special Task team dedicated to apprehending those responsible. Though the motive behind these repeated acts of property destruction remains unknown, police are treating these as serious offenses, having opened multiple cases of arson and malicious damage to property.

The police force is utilizing all available resources, reflecting their commitment to safeguard the citizens of Limpopo and their belongings. Law enforcement officials have implored the public to assist in bringing the perpetrators to book. They are adamant that community members who might have seen something or possess any information critical to solving these cases should step forward.

The lead Investigating Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Choene Makaleng, can be reached at 082 565 8426, and Detective Warrant Officer Matsobane Maleka at 082 759 5017. For those preferring anonymity, information can be submitted through the national Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App, ensuring confidentiality while aiding a crucial investigation.

The SAPS is diligently working to contain this disturbance to the harmony of Moletlane, readily standing against any actions that may instill fear or inflict harm within the community.
