The eviction of informal settlers from an area near Lourierpark in Bloemfontein has sparked controversy and arrests, with more than thirteen people detained for public violence. These actions came after the Mangaung Metro Municipality enforced a court order empowering the notorious Red Ants to dismantle recently erected structures on the disputed land near the Brandkop farm.

Residents of the occupied land allege that they received authorization from a local ANC councillor to settle on the apparently unallocated land. One resident sought an answer directly from the authorities, stating, "So I want the mayor to come here and to do the right thing to answer back to us because he is the one who gave us the authority to go there to claim the land but there’s no answer right now.”
