The KwaZulu-Natal social development community is in mourning following the tragic death of Dudu Zulu, a dedicated social worker from the region of Pongola. Dudu Zulu, employed by the KwaZulu-Natal social development department, along with a colleague, had just rescued an abandoned toddler from the vicinity of Tshelejuba Hospital in Pongola, a town in northern KZN. They were on their way to a child and youth care center in Vryheid when the fatal accident occurred. According to the report received by the KZN social development department, the vehicle lost control and subsequently crashed, leading to Zulu being thrown from the car through the front windscreen. While her colleague and the child miraculously survived the ordeal and are currently hospitalized, Zulu, unfortunately, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site.
The Department’s spokesperson, Mhlabunzima Memela, confirmed the details of the accident and expressed deep sadness over Zulu's untimely demise. The loss of Dudu Zulu has shaken the community, especially those who witnessed her dedication and care for children in distress.
Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family of Ms. Zulu and praised her contribution to society.
