Noted DJ Itu Luvsoul Alleges Assault by Local EFF Councillor in Maquassi Hills

On the morning of February 14th, renowned 35-year-old disk jockey Itumeleng Morake, popularly known as Itu Luvsoul, reported an assault incident that has sent shockwaves through the Maquassi Hills community. Morake claims that while driving in Wolmaransstad, North West, an encounter with a local Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillor escalated into a physical altercation.

According to Morake's recount of the events, the incident unfolded when he and his cousin crossed paths with the councillor on Geyer Street. After a casual greeting from the cousin, the councillor allegedly pursued Morake, eventually cutting off his vehicle, leading to a heated argument. The confrontation quickly deteriorated, as Morake asserts the councillor began to physically attack him with punches and an unknown object, even as he remained inside his car.

The attack reportedly continued on the street once Morake emerged from his vehicle, only ending when his cousin intervened. The aftermath of the assault left Morake with numerous injuries, including a broken nose, a damaged right eye, and other bodily harm, requiring him to undergo an X-ray and various forms of medical treatment.

Faced with a traumatic experience, Morake now voices concerns for his safety, emphasizing the chilling effect such incidents could have on the community's willingness to voice concerns about local governance. The ramifications extended beyond physical harm, as Morake mentions significant financial implications due to his inability to work and fulfill DJ commitments following the incident.

In the wake of the confrontation, Morake took legal steps, filing a case of assault and malicious damage of property against the councillor, with both the physical attack and damage to his personal belongings, including a broken phone screen and a car's side mirror, prompting the action.

Despite attempts to reach Sixolise Gcilishe, the EFF communications officer, for a comment on the matter, there has been no communication, leaving the councillor's side of the story untold.

The North West police, represented by spokeswoman Colonel Adele Myburgh, confirmed that cases of common assault have been opened by both men involved. She stated that investigations are underway, noting that neither of the parties has been arrested at this stage.
