In a small, close-knit West Coast community of Saldanha Bay, the disappearance of six-year-old Joshlin Smith has left a palpable void. Friends and family members remember her as a loving child whose disappearance on February 19 sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.

Joshlin, a first grader at Diazville Primary School, vanished around 5 pm on the fateful day, last seen wearing a light blue T-shirt and denim shorts. Known for her gentle demeanor and manners, she has been an endearing presence in the Saldanha Bay area.

Kelly Smith, Joshlin's distraught mother, reported that despite asking around, no one could pinpoint her daughter's location post her disappearance. Attempts to seek information from Jacquin Appollis, Joshlin's current caregiver, proved futile.

Carline Zeegers, who has played an instrumental part in both Kelly's life and that of her children, described Joshlin as a "petite" and "very loving child" who would affectionately rest on Zeegers' chest upon returning from school each day.

Joshlin's affinity for television and the cartoon character 'Peppa Pig' was one of the many small joys she brought into the lives of those around her. While rumors have circulated concerning Kelly's character, Zeegers defended her, highlighting the love and care she provides for her children, which is evident in their behavior.

The search for the young girl began immediately after her absence was noted. During load shedding, the search parties persisted, guided by lights provided by Zeegers, a testament to the community's determination to find Joshlin.

Western Cape Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, addressed the public's concern, clarifying SAPS's unwavering dedication to the case. Efforts have been reframed with the passage of time but are bolstered by specialized capabilities and the tireless work of law enforcement alongside community members.

Amidst the various communications circulating about the search effort, Pojie emphasized the importance of coordination and legality in volunteer-based searches, reaffirming that investigators are exploring all avenues to bring the case to court if necessary. As hopes for a safe return echo throughout Saldanha Bay, the clear message from local authorities and neighbors alike is one of vigilance and care for the community's children.
