Mbalula Dismisses Zuma's Majority Target as ANC Rallies Support in KZN

Fikile Mbalula, the African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general, has openly mocked the target set by the MK Party, led by Jacob Zuma, for achieving a two-thirds majority in South Africa's upcoming May elections. Mbalula made the comments during an ANC rally in Msinga, in the northern region of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), where he passionately spoke about the ANC's stance towards the newly established MK Party, its founder, and the current political landscape.

Addressing a crowd of dedicated ANC supporters, Mbalula pointed out that the MK Party's ambitious electoral goal was nothing more than a "pipe dream." He reminded the attendees that during Zuma's tenure as the leader of the ruling party, the ANC had not managed to attain such a majority; this milestone had last been achieved under Thabo Mbeki.

Mbalula reflected on the disappointment and betrayal felt within the ANC due to Zuma's actions. He criticized the former president for setting up a new party, which he likened to deserting the liberation struggle that he once championed.

The secretary-general went on to take a swipe at former ANC members who have defected to the MK Party, denouncing them as opportunists who left because of unfulfilled ambitions and personal grievances. He warned the current ANC members against believing Zuma's claims of “fixing the ANC from the outside” as a misleading narrative that benefits the unnamed "enemy" keen on the party's division.

The rhetoric employed by Mbalula was potent, suggesting that those who have left the ANC to join Zuma's party were aligning themselves with adversaries of the ANC's mission. He insisted that the ANC's resilience and continuity were not dependent on individual leaders but on its collective strength and historical legacy.
