KZN Father Charged with Human Trafficking of Own Daughter in Disturbing Court Case

In a disconcerting development occurring in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, a 43-year-old father has been hauled before the magistrate's court on severe allegations that link him directly to the trafficking of his minor daughter. Initially reported as a kidnapping case in the Isinembe area on January 5, the 14-year-old girl was later found on February 9 with a foreign national aged 23, sparking further investigation. It surfaced that her father had knowledge of her whereabouts all along, throwing a suspicious light on the initial missing person report. Police confirmed the girl had previously left her home in December 2023 under similar circumstances, a fact the father was aware of.

Collateral to the father's case, the undocumented companion of the young girl was apprehended and now faces charges pertaining to statutory rape and illegal residence in the country. The police remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice for the minor and the integrity of the legal system.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda provided explicit details regarding the case, painting a picture of deception and exploitation. Upon further probing, police insights revealed that the father had falsely reported a kidnapping after purportedly making arrangements with the foreign national, including pay lobola – a traditional bride price, for his underage daughter.

The KwaDukuza local community has expressed outrage over the incident. Mayor Lindile Nhaca, who was present during the court proceedings, did not mince words when addressing the grave matter. The mayor highlighted the gravity of a parent weaponizing the well-being of his child for financial gain, urging a strict legal response.

Residents determined to make their dissent heard picketed outside the courthouse. Emotions ran high as Mayor Nhaca delivered a powerful message condemning the father's actions and advocating for the protection of vulnerable women and children against grim abuses such as these. The community even handed in a petition fervently requesting the court to deny bail for the father, citing the danger he poses not only to his children but also to the society at large.
