ActionSA Launches No Confidence Motion to Unseat Ekurhuleni Mayor Ngodwana Amid Service Delivery Crisis

In a landmark political move, ActionSA has tabled a motion of no confidence against the Ekurhuleni mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana. The opposition party expressed deep concerns over the deteriorating service delivery and financial health of the metro under the current administration. Ngodwana, an African Independent Congress (AIC) member, rose to mayoralty supported by an alliance comprising the ANC, EFF, and five other minority parties.

Siyanda Makhubo, ActionSA's caucus leader, has been vocal about the mayor's alleged incompetence, underlining service delivery as the most glaring area of neglect. Makhubo highlighted several pressing issues, including the city's dwindling finances, suspended insourcing resolutions, and disregarded safety protocols regarding hijacked buildings. Moreover, the allegations of financial mismanagement by the EFF's MMC for Finance, Nkululeko Dunga, have further spurred the urgency of the motion.

The call for a leadership reassessment reflects residents' growing impatience with unfulfilled promises and administrative inaction. With circumstances reaching a critical juncture, the February Council meeting will determine Ngodwana's fate as well as the coalition’s future. ActionSA's stance remains firm; the party seeks to collaborate with any faction prioritizing the public's welfare and the revival of service delivery.
