Cape Town to Host Landmark Earthshot Week 2024 in Celebration of Global Environmental Innovators

Cape Town, the vibrant coastal city located at the southern tip of the African continent, is set to become the global epicenter of environmental innovation in November 2024, as it hosts Earthshot Week. Organized by the Earthshot Prize, the event marks its first-ever foray into African soil, honoring the continent's rich diversity of ideas and the unwavering spirit of its people in confronting climate challenges.

Earthshot Week 2024 sprawls across five groundbreaking days, promising a festival of forward-thinking ingenuity. Despite Africa’s minimal contributions to global emissions and its modest role in the climate crisis, it remains the most acutely affected continent—a fact not lost on the Earthshot Prize. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, 2022 alone saw more than 110 million Africans face the harsh consequences of weather, climate, and water-induced phenomena. Yet, the African response to this adversity has been nothing short of remarkable, with nearly every nation on the continent taking strides to reduce emissions and fortify themselves against the onslaught of climate change.
