Boy Mamabolo's Defence Amid Affectionate Video: "There's Nothing Wrong with Kissing Comrades"

Controversy has swirled around ANC Member of Parliament Boy Mamabolo following the release of a video in which he is seen kissing a woman, who is not his wife, during the recent celebrations of the ANC's 112th anniversary. The video has catalyzed widespread debate on social media regarding the boundaries of personal and political conduct, pushing the MP into the spotlight once again.

The incident occurred in Mpumalanga, where ANC members gathered in a colourful celebration of the party's long-standing history and achievement. Mamabolo, clearly identifiable in his ANC regalia, was captured in a moment of intimate embrace with a woman named Buhlebendalo, who shares his political affiliation.

Defending his actions, Mamabolo asserted to The Citizen, "Nope I was not cheating on my wife. She is my cadre and there is nothing wrong with kissing my own comrades, I’m not sleeping with them." He bolstered his argument by referring to his public demonstration of family values on social media, where he routinely posts pictures of his family using hashtags like #Chooseday to emphasize his dedication to his wife and mother.

Despite the uproar, Mamabolo believes the circulation of the video causes no harm, stating that anything truly incriminating would not have occurred in such a public space.

This response is reminiscent of previous incidents where the MP faced accusations. In particular, back in 2020, Mamabolo made headlines not for a display of affection but for a darker reason: he issued an apology following threats made against a journalist. That same year, he was propelled into a legal settlement with Economic Freedom Fighters' leader Julius Malema after alleging Malema was abusive towards his wife.

The ANC's internal disciplinary body addressed Mamabolo's conduct by mandating his attendance in an anger management class, indicating that the party does not take such issues lightly and strives to maintain a standard of decorum among its representatives.
