Cape Businesswoman's Bail Bid Fails as Court Exposes Deceit

Johnson, a 36-year-old franchise owner of two beauty salons and a fuel station, and partner to the alleged underworld figure, Ralph Stanfield, was compelled to make a fresh plea for bail at the Cape Town magistrate’s court, citing the deteriorating health of her daughter and vital business responsibilities. According to her, her daughter's physical and emotional wellbeing had declined significantly since her incarceration, exhibiting symptoms such as weight loss and the inability to keep meals down. Coupled with this, Johnson claimed that her absence from the helm of her businesses was leading them to ruin.

The court, however, pierced through the veil of her narrative. It was unveiled that no prior mention of her daughter's alleged illness was made in her initial bail application. The absence of any corroborating evidence from schools, social workers, or through an affidavit cast a shadow of doubt on her claims. Furthermore, Magistrate Theart pointed out the absence of these concerns in discussions with social workers, indicating an intent to mislead by constructing a health crisis.

Turning to her professional life, Johnson had asserted that without her leadership, her beauty salons were bound to fail after the closure of lease agreements. Yet, evidence was brought before the court demonstrating that operations were continuing normally. Similarly, her claims of exclusive control over petrol prices at her station were refuted with proof to the contrary.

The facade crumbled further when it came to light that Johnson had lied to a vehicle tracking company in an attempt to locate a BMW involved in an alleged theft by an employee. The altercation that followed culminated in the theft of the vehicle owner's cell phone, adding layers to the web of deceit.
