Groote Schuur Hospital Uplifts Patients with Festive Hampers and Music

An atmosphere filled with the spirit of giving and melodies from the St Timothy’s Christmas Band, the hospital staff distributed 800 hampers filled with groceries and hygiene essentials to in-patients, continuing a heartwarming 11-year tradition designed to brighten the holiday season for those spending it in the hospital's wards.

During this emotionally challenging period, the thoughtfulness of the hospital brought unexpected joy to patients like Craig Visser from Mitchell's Plain. After suffering a stroke, Visser had been looking forward to being discharged but was told he had to stay in the hospital for an additional 48 hours. He described how the event lifted his spirits, instilling in him the essence of the season when he had been feeling particularly low.

The initiative not only served as a gesture of kindness but highlighted the hospital's dedication to contributing positively to the community it serves.
