In an impressive stride for South African technology, Soweto-based company Khoi Tech has proudly introduced its latest innovation – the Afriwatch1 smartwatch – now available at Telkom's retail outlets and online store. This smartwatch emerges not just as a gadget but as a testament to African innovation, reflecting the continent's growing tech industry.

The Afriwatch1 debuts with a plethora of health-tracking functionalities including heart rate assessment, body temperature monitoring, blood oxygen detection, and comprehensive sleep and stress tracking capabilities, positioning it as a holistic health companion. Khoi Tech's commitment to accuracy led to collaborative efforts with Soweto's Vilakazi Health Care; after extensive R&D and clinical trial endeavors, the smartwatch achieved a remarkable 94% accuracy rate in vital health data monitoring.

Specially tailored for up to five days of non-stop health tracking on a single charge, the Afriwatch1 also supports 12 distinct exercise modes. Its versatile features extend to remote music control and messaging, encapsulating the needs of a contemporary smartwatch user. With this blend of functionality and stamina, Khoi Tech's wearable confidently takes its place alongside renowned brands in the market.

Spawned from the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic, the conception of Afriwatch1 was presented to telecom giant Telkom, which through its FutureMakers programme, granted Khoi Tech R500,000 to incubate the business idea into a consumer-ready product. Besides the general market, Khoi Tech is reaching out to corporate sectors by offering their smartwatch as part of employee wellness programs, featuring an emergency alert system for prompt notifications to employers and relatives.

Khoi Tech has been adamant about its role in pushing Africa to the forefront of global innovation, with the Afriwatch1 serving as a beacon of the continent's potential. Priced competitively at R2,479 on Telkom with the FlexOn prepaid package, it offers an alternative pairing with a 2GB data SIM for R2,628. The pricing strategy is acutely set to compete with other eminent players such as Garmin, Samsung, and Xiaomi, while also keeping an eye on the budget-friendly spectrum of the market.

Furthermore, the Afriwatch1 smartwatch is supported by the Zeroner or Zeofit smartphone apps, depending on the customer's device ecosystem, facilitating seamless synchronization between the smartwatch and various smartphones. These apps, while developed by a Chinese firm, underscore a broader collaboration in the global tech space. The smartwatch hardware features include a 1.65-inch LCD colour display and a 170mAh battery, delivering a week's worth of usage on a single charge. It is powered by the Goodix GR5515 chip, shared among several budget smartwatches, signifying Khoi Tech's strategic positioning within a cost-efficient manufacturing process without compromising on quality.

In essence, the Afriwatch1 by Khoi Tech is more than a smartwatch; it's a symbol of South African innovation, ready to conquer the global stage, while simultaneously addressing the health needs of its wearers.
