DStv Expands Content Offering with Launch of NWTV and Additional Channels

MultiChoice Group's digital satellite television service, DStv, has broadened its horizons with the introduction of NWTV, a fresh channel aimed at providing personalized content with a regional touch. The launch of NWTV on channel 266 took place on Thursday, 30 November 2023, representing a strategic expansion in DStv's channel catalogue.

NWTV embraces the unique identity of the North West province and offers a broader selection of narratives from Southern Africa. This burgeoning channel is accessible to subscribers across all DStv packages, including Premium, Compact+, Compact, Family, Access, and EasyView, ensuring that a wide array of audiences can enjoy its content.

The inclusion of NWTV on DStv is significant as it aligns with MultiChoice's commitment to represent and celebrate South Africa's diverse linguistic and cultural tapestry. According to Georginah Machiridza, executive head of general entertainment channels at MultiChoice Group, the new channel is both a tribute to the region's dynamic culture and a source of engaging storytelling that resonates across the Southern African region.

Emphasizing its commitment to provide content that inspires, educates, and entertains, MultiChoice indicates that NWTV will highlight the tales and triumphs of South African heroes. It is set to be a platform for family-friendly programming, infused with local flavor and relevance.

NWTV's arrival followed DStv's launch of Play Room, another recent addition tailored for the younger audience. Play Room, which went live on 6 November 2023 on channel 300, caters to children with a mix of educational material and engaging entertainment. It targets preschoolers in the morning slot with a focus on education and provides live-action shows in the afternoon for tweens. DStv subscribers can access Play Room starting from the R129 per month Access package and above.

Additionally, in a move to enhance its sports offerings, DStv made ESPN 1 available to DStv Access package subscribers from 1 December 2023. Previously, the channel was only included in the pricier Compact package. This update follows the introduction of ESPN 2 to the Compact package in April 2023, delivering the excitement of the NBA and NFL to South African sports fans.
