Mashaba Calls for Action Over Government ‘Unpatriotism’ at 2024 Election Campaign Launch

Herman Mashaba, the president of ActionSA, made a compelling plea to South Africans during the party's 2024 election campaign launch in Hammanskraal, urging citizens to take back control of the country's destiny from what he described as an "unpatriotic" government. He was addressing party followers and potential voters on Saturday when he challenged the current administration's handling of the nation's persistent issues of crime, poverty, and unemployment.

His assertive stance came in sharp contrast to President Cyril Ramaphosa's recent appeal to South Africans to demonstrate patriotism and refrain from speaking negatively about their homeland. Mashaba countered this narrative, positioning a government that oversees a society plagued by such endemic problems as failing in its duty to its citizens and, ultimately, as exhibiting a lack of true patriotism.

With the rallying cry of creating a safer, more prosperous South Africa, Mashaba outlined ActionSA's commitment to fostering an environment where children can play securely in neighborhoods, corruption is eradicated, and equal opportunities for success are available to all. The party's vision places a significant emphasis on public safety and transparent governance as pivotal elements for the nation's progress.

The event in Hammanskraal was also a display of resilience and growth for the political party, particularly in the context of its KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) branches. After encountering turbulence and a series of resignations which led to the dissolution of the Provincial Executive Committee in 2022, the KZN leadership, under Zwakele Mncwango, announced their readiness to run in the provincial elections.

Zwakele Mncwango, who defected from the Democratic Alliance to join ActionSA, has taken over the provincial chairmanship following the dismissal of Makhosi Khoza. He assured those gathered for the campaign launch of having made significant progress in re-establishing and expanding the party's presence in the region.

In a testament to ActionSA's influence, despite its currently limited representation in government, Mncwango highlighted how they had effectively addressed regional issues, notably thwarting an alleged misuse of R20 million in public funds by the KZN government intended for the South African Music Awards.

In addition to local matters, ActionSA is part of a larger movement, joining forces with the 'moonshot pact' - an alliance of eight opposition parties. This coalition aims to disrupt the longstanding dominance of the African National Congress in the 2024 general elections and bring about substantial political change in South Africa.

As the country moves towards the next election cycle, the narrative set by ActionSA in Hammanskraal suggests a campaign focused on challenging the status quo, promoting good governance, and uniting voters behind a shared vision of national pride and prosperity.
