ActionSA Vows to Abandon B-BBEE for Inclusive Growth, Launches Election Manifesto in Hammanskraal

In a bold proclamation that has stirred the political landscape, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has declared a commitment to dismantling Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) should his party be victorious in the forthcoming elections. The announcement came during the launch of the party's manifesto in Hammanskraal, the neighborhood where Mashaba spent his childhood years.

The manifesto event, accompanied by enthusiastic supporters and Hammanskraal locals, provided a platform for Mashaba to outline his vision for South Africa’s future – a vision that sharply deviates from the path laid out by the current ANC-led government. Referring to the status quo with a clear tone of disapproval, Mashaba describes a landscape marred by ineffective policies, failing municipalities, overrun sewage systems, and roads plagued by potholes. These conditions, he implies, are the direct result of the ANC's approach to governance and economic policy, particularly B-BBEE.

With 2024's General Elections on the horizon, ActionSA has sketched a broad stroke of promises that resonate with a populace that is eager for change. Job creation, eradication of corruption, effective governance, and substantial economic expansion form the core pillars of their ambitious campaign.

Mashaba, positioning himself as a defender of ethical leadership and good governance, accused current government officials of being unpatriotic, catering to lawlessness, and prioritizing personal security over national welfare. The picture he paints is of a country in the clutches of a select few who exploit the state for their gain, while the majority struggle in poverty, relying heavily on social grants.

The ActionSA leader pulls no punches in his critique of the B-BBEE, branding it ineffective and divisive. His argument pivots on the assertion that inequality has only widened since the dawn of democracy in 1994. He proposes replacing B-BBEE with policies that will encourage economic growth and, importantly, include all South Africans, regardless of race.

On immigration, Mashaba has pledged to strengthen border controls and take stringent measures against illegal immigration by deporting undocumented migrants. His vision for South Africa is framed with the revival of the rule of law and a reduction in state dependency through social grants.

The rhetoric at the manifesto launch was charged with the promise of a transformed South Africa – one where equality, opportunity, and the law are pillars upon which society stands. However, with promises come expectations, and ActionSA has set a high bar for itself. The party urges the public to judge it not by its manifesto but by its ability to deliver on its promises, namely reducing social grants, fostering job opportunities, and charting significant economic growth.

While the current political dynamics of South Africa are complex, ActionSA’s assertive stance and Mashaba’s reputation as a former mayor of Johannesburg lend the party a degree of street credibility in the run-up to the elections. However, only time will tell if the party's vision will resonate with the broader electorate and result in the seismic shift Mashaba is aiming for.
