Gauteng Duo Interrogated Over Break-in at SA Rugby Union Offices in Cape Town

Local authorities have made significant strides in an investigation concerning a break-in at the South African Rugby Union (SARU) offices located in Cape Town. Western Cape police officials have apprehended two men from Gauteng for their alleged connection with the crime that took place on the evening of Monday, October 13.

The incident, which has prompted a province-spanning investigation, resulted in the theft of 68 laptops, exclusive South African Rugby merchandise, and a collection of high-end liquors. Despite the crime, rugby fans were relieved to hear that the treasured Webb Ellis Rugby World Cup trophy remains secure.

Brigadier Novela Potelwa, provincial police spokesperson, detailed the developments in the case. Following the call-out to Parow police on Tuesday morning after the break-in was discovered, the Western Cape Serious Violent Crimes (SVC) detectives were immediately tasked with the case. The investigative team reportedly has been "hard at work" pursuing several leads related to the crime.

The circulating video footage played a crucial role, showcasing the thieves' efforts to access the offices and their subsequent rummage through the premises. The SVC team's efforts have now crossed provincial boundaries, leading to the detention of the duo currently under questioning.

Potelwa expressed confidence that the investigation is near a breakthrough, with the implication that further arrests could be forthcoming.
