In a bid to offer a more convenient, efficient service to South African motorists, renowned supermarket chains Shoprite and Checkers have recently launched an in-store vehicle licence renewal service. The service, made available from November 1, to January 31, offers a seamless process for consumers at any of the 1,350 Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave store Money Market counters across South Africa.
The General Manager of Financial Services at the Shoprite Group, Jean Olivier, in a recent statement, highlighted the economic hardship experienced by consumers. To help alleviate this burden and provide some relief, Shoprite and Checkers have afforded an efficient way to renew vehicle licenses at a discounted fee of R185.
The process requires simple documentation: a current car licence disc, a barcoded ID book or Smartcard ID, and proof of residence. The procedure starts with capturing the needed information online, followed by making payment either online or in-store. Lastly, the process ends with a courier delivering the renewed license within 5 to ten business days.
According to Olivier, the fixed renewal fees include an admin fee of R110.25 and a delivery fee of R74.75, totaling R185. The potential fluctuation in the license fee and potential penalties are confirmed during the process.
Additionally, these renewals can also be catered for at the Money Market counters in OK Furniture, House & Home, and selected OK Foods outlets, thus increasing the number of physical touchpoints for vehicle owners to handle their vehicle licensing.
