Democratic Alliance's Baxolilie Nodada Calls for Education Minister's Dismissal Citing Education System Failures

Baxolilie Nodada, a representative of the Democratic Alliance (DA), declared that the incompetence of the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, is promoting the absence of employment, education, and adequate training for about 3.4 million youngsters in South Africa. He further asserted that these shortcomings are indirectly responsible for the bleak employment prospects of the majority of 15- to 24-year-olds in the nation since they lack vital skills due to an inadequate education system.

Nodada expressed concern over Motshekga's continuous failure in delivering quality education across the board, leading to a disheartening lifetime of poverty, unemployment, and scarcity for the young population. Instead of rectifying the underlying issues that hinder the education landscape, such as overcrowding, substandard teaching quality, unsafe f infrastructure, and high dropout rates, he accused Minister Motshekga and her colleagues of imposing the debilitating Basic Education Laws Amendment (Bela) Bill.

The controversial bill, he argued, will rob school governing bodies (SGBs), parents, and communities of their rights to pivotal decisions about their children's education. As an opposition to this move, Nodada informed that both the DA and civil society organisations are prepared to challenge the Bela Bill legally, while continuing to appeal to President Cyril Ramaphosa to relieve Motshekga of her position for the greater good of the country's future generations.

Summarizing his argument, Nodada provided five key reasons for considering the dismissal of Minister Motshekga, including the shocking inadequacy of foundational numeracy and literacy skills among learners, poor quality teaching, severe infrastructure failures, high dropout rates coupled with disappointing matric pass rates, and nearly a billion in irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure.

Asserting his stance, Nodada stressed on the pressing need for a competent and diligent Minister of Basic Education who is genuinely invested in the future of South Africa's children and dedicated to equipping them with necessary skills and knowledge for prosperous, successful lives.
