The City of Cape Town has provided an exciting announcement that is sure to light up the faces of many local dancers. To accompany the city's annual Festive Lights Switch-On event scheduled for 26th November, a dance-off competition entitled "The Future of Hope Dance Competition" has been announced.
This competition seeks to bring local dance crews into the spotlight, offering a grand prize of R10,000 to the winning crew. It draws its name from this year's theme for the Festive Lights Switch-On event - celebrating the hope, creativity, talent, and the indomitable spirit of Cape Town's local community.
Interested participants from all age groups and dance styles are welcomed. The procedure requires dance crews to upload a choreographed dance video, not exceeding two minutes in length, to their respective Facebook, Instagram or TikTok pages. The posts should be marked with the hashtag #CTFestiveLightsDance for the evaluation of the competition's judges. The deadline for entries is 12pm on 15th November 2023.
Out of the submissions, the top ten contenders will showcase their skills in a public dance-off at the world-renowned V&A Waterfront on 19th November with potential cash prizes. The best three dance crews will not only win cash prizes but also gain an opportunity to perform at the Festive Lights Switch-On event. The winning group can take home a whopping R10,000, while the second and third-place winners will receive R5,000 and R2,000 respectively.
Alderman JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, expresses his excitement about the competition, praising Cape Town's rich talent pool and dancing prowess.
