The South African Police Service (SAPS) executed a massive operation on Thursday, October 26, resulting in the destruction of illegal drugs worth approximately R800 million. This notable blow against the drug trade took place in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
This wide-scale operation involved national law enforcement agencies, and saw the confiscation and subsequent destruction of substantial quantities of illicit substances such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and Mandrax. The drugs came into SAPS' possession as a result of regular law enforcement activities through raids and arrests across the country.
Perhaps even more impactful than the drug bust in denting the criminal underworld, was the operation's success in apprehending 20,000 criminals. These individuals were involved in a spectrum of criminal offences, from murder and rape to possession of prohibited substances.
This decisive operation forms part of SAPS’ ongoing commitment to the war against drugs and crime, aimed at ensuring enhanced safety and security for all South African citizens.
