Ethics Committee Recommends Dipuo Peters be Sanctioned for State Capture Breaches at Prasa

South Africa's Parliament's ethics committee has recommended sanctions against Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Dipuo Peters, due to breaches associated with state capture at the troubled Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa). This comes despite the Zondo Commission's prior findings against her.

Before her current position, Peters served as the transport minister under former President Jacob Zuma's administration. It was during this tenure that the state capture, a form of political corruption, was rampant. The committee's findings are heavily based on her actions committed while she was in Zuma's Cabinet.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, contrary to these findings, had appointed Peters to his executive, a decision that is likely to face more scrutiny following the ethics committee's determination. The recommendation for sanctions paves the way for stronger accountability within the government.
