England Rugby flanker Tom Curry has been subject to ceaseless online abuse since last week's World Cup semifinal, a situation that has led normally reticent Captain, Owen Farrell, to condemn such behaviour in a press conference on Wednesday. The abuse arose from a confrontation between Curry and Springbok's hooker Bongi Mbonambi, who was accused by Curry of using discriminatory language.

The governing bodies of World Rugby and SA Rugby have been probing into the allegations, with the potential for hefty penalties, including the possibility of sidelining Mbonambi from the approaching final against New Zealand on Saturday. Farrell expressed dismay over the extent of the abuse targeted at Curry, raising concerns about its effects on not just the individual, but the team in entirety.

The England team has rallied behind Curry, stressing the unacceptable nature of cyber-bullying. Despite the ongoing controversy, Curry is determined to participate in England's upcoming match against Argentina. Farrell said that he is incredibly proud of Curry's tenacious spirit and hopes the close-knit England team provides him solid support.

England Rugby Coach, Steve Borthwick, echoed Farrell's sentiments and vehemently criticized the online abuse. Borthwick underscores that Curry's focus remains laser sharp, with the responsibility of dealing with the incident resting with World Rugby and SA Rugby.

Sale Sharks, Curry's Premiership club, collectively voiced their disgust for the vitriolic abuse that has been hurled at their player. They have pledged their full support for Curry during these testing times.

Ahead of the Rugby World Cup, World Rugby announced an alliance with the Signify Group to combat hate speech and abuse during the event. However, it remains unclear whether any action has been taken in Curry's case. The incident has made Farrell more skeptical of social media engagement.
